Analysis of 1863 Document

Emancipation Proclamation .jpg

Emancipation Proclamation 1863.

This is a copy of the physical document. It respresents the simplicity and intention of the Emancipation Proclamation

EP 62 LP.png

Created from the September 1862 primary Emancipation Proclamation.

I created this document to analyze the intention and of the Emancipation Proclamation through the document's vocabulary. The two largest words are States and United. The prodominance of "state" implies that is the audience that will be most impacted by the Emancipaiton. United is the second most used word in the document, which indicates that the goal of this document is to gather all the states together to support this idea.
Other words such as persons/people, rebelion, and day are notably large. I found the use of day most interesting. It is a common word, a simple and short word. However in this context I believe it indicates the immediate neccessity of the Proclamation. Persons indicates who the document was meant to address. President Lincoln was talking to people about people; not to peopel about slaves or property. The word rebeillion is indicitive of the Civil War occuring at the time. This document is aimed specifically at people in rebelling states, and the change the document is inflicting starts today.
